So at my work is karaoke every Monday and now every Sunday. This is partially how I got hired in the first place. I love singing so my first venture out into the "community" was the weekly karaoke jaunts. The owner got to know me and when they needed me I happen to need a job. Bing bang boom, you're caught up. I know and I realize that I'm not the best singer. I accept that. Now, in that bar on a Monday it's possible, regardless, karaoke night has me starting to doubt my abilities.
I have standards and little rules I abide by. One is I never sing anything more than once a week. You get these people who come in weekly and honestly sing the same damn songs with their same damn friends EVERY week. We're talking the same five or so songs. I don't get it. And h honestly, they're not that great. Yeah, I'm looking at you mixed tape. Here's the thing though: I really don't care how you sing as long as you're having fun. Recordings of your singing may be used to torture innocent people in some country ending in "stan" but if you're up there having a good time, I really don't care. That's the second rule. Now if the first rule is broken the second doesn't count, sorry about it. You can't be up there standing there staring awkwardly at the monitor singing "Sweet Transvestite" every week.
Now, the purpose of this post wasn't for me to describe and bring you along on my own weekly personal hell. It's a feeling I've been getting from the crowd lately. Lately I have doubting my abilities. I already mentioned that I know I'm not the best singer, but what I do know is that I'm a performer. Baptist sure made sure of that. Now, when Felecia there gets a roaring applause from standing there awkwardly and scratching out a Lady Gaga song not even in the right tempo, but I don't get sprinklely after turning out some Bublè what am I supposed to think? I realize I shouldn't base my abilities from the reaction of a bar drunk off Amberbock but it still has its effect one my esteem.
I don't want to sound like I'm fishing for complements but this is a weekly occurrence. I don't know. My I should lower my performance level and stand there like a lump and speaksing Under the Bridge or something... Give that a try. Everyonce in a while I get a little ego boost. This last Monday this couple said they drove over an hour to come hear me sing. Kind of shocked me a bit. I asked them if there was anything they wanted to hear me sing expected they'd choo out of my history. Nope. "Hey, Soul Sister"...really!? Turns out I don't know that song too well. Sorry guys.
Sorry it's been a while. I don't even have any good YouTube videos to leave you with. Just go watch Archer.
